(an exam sat in January/May/September 2023 is valid until 31/12/2025)
Remember only students who have passed and registered Lingua 1 are permitted to take the 2nd year lettorato exam. Students will be asked for proof at the oral exam.
The exam is divided into three parts:
A computer-based grammar test (45 minutes) based on units 1 – 16, 19 – 35, 37, 38, 47 – 49, 51, 52, 58, 59, 62 – 64 and 79 – 81 of My Grammar Lab. The test contains 40 questions and is worth 10 points. Students will only be admitted to the next part of the exam if they have scored at least 6/10 (i.e. 24 correct answers).
An essay of approx. 200 (+/-10%) words (75 minutes - written exam). Students who have passed part 1 of the exam will return to the classroom in the afternoon to sit the written part of the exam. The essay should have a clear, coherent logical structure and be divided into paragraphs with an introduction and a conclusion. The essay is worth 10 points and students will only be admitted to part 3 of the exam if they have scored at least 6/10.
An oral exam (worth 10 points). Students will be asked to discuss and answer relevant and targeted questions about a chapter or key theme from the textbook, Skillful 3 Reading and Writing. Students must score at least 6/10 in the oral to pass the second year exam.

Students who fail the oral exam after passing both written parts can hold over their written mark (minimum 6/10 for Use of English and minimum 6/10 for essay for a total of 12/20 ) for the two subsequent sessions, only resitting the oral part.
All three parts must be taken together in the same initial session before the decision to keep the overall written mark is made. Students who fail the essay CANNOT keep their pre-test mark.
Students must request their mark to be held over when the final results are posted on this website.
There will be a link to a form where students can opt to keep their results valid for the next two exam sessions.
Students will have 3 days in which to communicate their decision via this form – do not email teachers.
Students who are not satisfied with an overall pass mark (minimum 18/30) should “refuse” this final mark in the usual way by emailing the co-ordinator within 3 days of the results being posted and repeat all three parts in a subsequent exam session.
