3rd Year: Programme

LETTORATI EXAMS HAVE A VALIDITY OF 3 YEARS

(an exam sat in January/May/September 2022 is valid until 31/12/2024)

Students are reminded that before taking this exam, they must have ALREADY PASSED Lingua Inglese II.

The third year Lettorato Exam consists of 2 written parts.

Both written sections must be taken in the same session.

All students must take (i) Translation and (ii) Listening/Summary Writing.

EXAM

 (i) Translation

This will consist of a short text (approx. 200 words) for translation from Italian into English. There will be the same text for all three degree courses. All translations will be assessed for grammatical accuracy and pragmatic appropriacy. (15 marks)

Mono, bi-lingual dictionaries and/or a thesaurus (all paper only, no electronic versions) are allowed only for the translation (90 mins)

ii) Listening/Summary Writing

This will consist of a TV or radio documentary or news programme, of general interest, lasting 10-12 minutes, which will be seen/listened to twice. Comprehension and writing ability will be tested by means of a summary.

No dictionaries are allowed for this exam. (approximately 90 mins) (15 marks)

The result of the Translation paper is added to the result of the Summary to give a final total (minimum 18 to pass) out of 30 points.

Holding marks over

Students may now keep a pass mark from either the Summary or the Translation paper if they fail the overall exam and hold that mark over to a subsequent exam session

A mark  of 9/15 or higher for either 3rd Year Translation or 3rd Year Listening and Summary will be considered valid for the two subsequent sessions. Both parts must be taken together in the same initial session.

Students must request their mark to be held over. When the final results are posted on lettorati-english.unito.it there will be a link to a form where students can opt to keep their mark valid for the next two exam sessions

Students will have 3 days in which to communicate their decision via this form - do not email teachers.

Students who are not satisfied with an overall pass mark (minimum 18/30) should "refuse" this final mark in the usual way by emailing the co-ordinator within 3 days of the results being posted and repeat both parts in a subsequent exam session.
